Peak to Creek 2016: lowered start but the race stayed real

On Sunday February 28, 2016 the event Peak to Creek took place in Bormio (Lombardia, Italy). The annual alpine ski race was a great success despite the severe snow alert that would have discouraged the most courageous mountain man. The event gave, once again, evidence of being a superb day of sport and a great moment of sharing.

The event registered a good attendance: over 400 people joined the edition 2016 which stayed a real race in spite of the lowered start taken down to 2,500 meters on the S. Ambrogio slope. The official race course was supposed to start from Cima Bianca at 3,000 m but due to the low visibility and the snow alert the Organizing Committee had to modify the start level. It was a forced decision to safeguard the safety of the skiers but, in the end, the race kept its charm and thrilling spirit. The exclusive format of Peak to Creek kept its original features: course prepared like a downhill and paired-up start.

Rankings Peak to Creek 2016

Despite the severe snow alert that would have discouraged the most courageous mountain man, Peak to Creek 2016 gave, once again, evidence of being a superb day of sport and a great moment of sharing in Bormio (Valtellina, Italy). It was a real race in spite of the lowered start: from the original 3,000 meters the start gate was taken down to 2,500 meters due to the bad (and uncertain) weather conditions.

Peak to Creek 2016 start list

Evertyhing is ready for the eleventh edition of Peak to Creek 2016 despite the snow alert. The start list has been prepared and sent to the timekeepers because, as the Queen used to sing, “The Show Must Go On” and we are of the same opinion. The Organizing Committee is doing everthing to offer the best event ever and respecting the safety of all the partecipants.

The course will be prepared fro the top but we have found a few solutions in case of bad weather: the start will be pushed down at lower altitudes. Only tomorrow we will discover the weather conditions by looking up to the sky. We will give you immediate communication.

Peak to Creek is a great snow festival. Hope you will all enjoy it and have a great start!

Peak to Creek 2016: schedule and info. Weather alert

This afternoon the Organizing Committee of Peak to Creek 2016 met for an important briefing whose focus was on the severe weather warnings of this coming weekend and the possibilities to make a few changes on the schedule and race course 2016. The weather forecasts are expecting strong snowfalls on next Saturday and Sunday and those might have a huge impact on the event.

Peak to Creek 2016 Previsioni meteo

Peak to Creek, scheduled for Sunday February 28, 2016, will NOT change date. The Organizing Committee is instead taking into consideration the possibility to make some changes on the race course and on the schedule of the event if the weather conditions will be thaat bad as predicted from the forecasts. Any possible change will be made to safeguard the safety of the participants.

If the weather alert will be real, the ski area will, therefore, become unsafe at the top: low visibility and fresh snow on the course. In that case we will not be able to provide the classic race course from Bormio 3000 to Bormio which may expose the skiers to jeopardy. The Organizing Committee will then have to find a different solution: the race course will have to be shorter and safe.

The possible alternative race course will start from 2,100 meters on the S. Ambrogio slope. It will look more like a giant slalom rather than a downhill. The gates will be positioned a lot closer to each other. Our suggestion is to bring shorter skis: don’t bring your downhill skis! If the change on race course will be made, the Organizing Committee will give a communication on Sunday morning a few minutes before the official race start set for 10:30 am.

After the race, free lunch for the racers at the Ski Stadium Atleti Azzurri d’Italia and then prize giving at the bar après ski BeWhite.

The Organizing Committe of Peak to Creek 2016 would like to remind you that Peak to Creek is a non competitive event open to all those who love ski.
Looking forward to some better weather, we wish you all a great race!

Peak to Creek postponed to February 28, 2016

Peak to Creek’s Organizing Committee, despite the good snow condition of the ski area, on the top and on the whole race course that takes to Bormio, is obliged to move forward the date of the event due to the weather conditions of the latest days which have determined a strong reduction of the security measures on the course. Especially, the strong wind at the top has badly penalized the security over the ski runs edges. For this reasons, the Comittee, in order to guarantee the full safety of the participants, has decided to postpone the event from Saturday January 23, 2016 to Sunday February 28, 2016.
